NATO does not recognize elections in South Ossetia

PanARMENIAN.Net - NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer issued a statement on the May 31 parliamentary elections in South Ossetia, won by supporters of current President Eduard Kokoyty.



"NATO does not recognize the elections held on May 31 in South Ossetia. The holding of such elections does not contribute to a peaceful and lasting settlement of the situation in Georgia. The Alliance reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders," the statement said.

Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive.

The bill, published on Monday, is designed to "eliminate the shortcomings of an unreasonably broad interpretation of the key concept of "compatriot".
