RA-Turkish border opening will stimulate competition

PanARMENIAN.Net - RA -Turkish border opening will stimulate competition, RA Consumers' Union Chairman Armen Poghosyan believes. " In case of border opening, local manufacturers will have to increase their competitiveness through improvement in product quality and effective marketing policy," he said.

At the same time, Poghosyan noted that unchanged economic course will harm Armenian consumers' interests. "The government has to stimulate local manufacturers. We have to give preference to local products, instead of Turkey-imported ones," RA Consumers' Union Chairman added.

According to Armen Poghosyan, Turkish imports to Armenia reach $ 180 million, while RA exports to Turkey stand below $ 1 million. Armenia has a great potential in the export of electric power to Turkey and transit export to neighboring countries, as well as agriculture products manufacturing, Armen Poghosyan believes. The Chairman noted that while Turkish market will register almost no changes after border opening, Western Armenia could become the main consumer for RA -manufactured production.
