Bela Tarr presents The Turin Horse at Golden Apricot

PanARMENIAN.Net - World-acclaimed Hungarian director Bela Tarr was invited as an honorary guest to Golden Apricot 8th international film festival, with his films: Damnation, The Man from London and The Turin Horse to be screened within festival framework.

The director announced intention to end his cinema career upon completion of his last work, The Turin Horse. The director himself believes the film to be a worthy completion to his career. However, in Yerevan, the filmmaker refused to comment on his announcement.

The Turin Horse recalls the whipping of a horse in the Italian city Turin which is rumoured to have caused the mental breakdown of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The film is in black and white and focuses on the repetitive daily lives of the horse and its owner.

The film was an international co-production led by the Hungarian company T. T. Filmműhely. After having been postponed several times, it premiered in 2011 at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, where it received the Jury Grand Prix. The Hungarian release was set to March the same year, but was cancelled after the director criticised the country's government in an interview.
