HEAD OF SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER EUROPE CONFIRMED INFORMATION ON DEPLOYMENT OF US MILITARY BASES IN AZERBAIJAN
When addressing the Congress General James L. Jones, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), stated that a great deal of work has been done for the implementation of Caspian Guard initiative, Day.az reports. According to him, the Caspian Guard will provide the security of the air, overland and sea borders of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Pentagon has been working at the conception since 2003. The Caspian Guard is to become the headmost bridge between the US European Command and the headquarters in Stuttgart. World Street Journal says that the Baku-located headquarters of the Caspian Guard will be equipped with modern radars. The forces subordinate to the headquarters will provide security of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Besides they will deal with the problems referring to the illegal drug circulation and contraband of weapons. Within the next 10 years the US government is planning to allocate $100 million for the formation of brigades of the Caspian Guard.
