North Caucasus-Transcaucasia Gas Pipeline Has Evil Fate

January 24 the restoration works were suspended as gas condensate started penetrating from Georgia's side through the stopper, which posed a threat of an explosion during welding. January 26 new damage was found on Mozdok-Tbilisi gas pipeline. These required replacing another 9-meter part of the pipe. The overall estimated cost of explosion of the gas pipeline makes 30 million rubbles according to preliminary assessments.



On the night of January 22 explosions took place at the gas pipeline in North Ossetia. Explosive assemblies of 700-800 grams in trotyl equivalent exploded with an intermission of 20 minutes on the main and reserve branches of North Caucasus-Transcaucasia gas pipeline. The Prosecutor's Office of Russia believes it was sabotage. At the moment Armenia is using the reserves of the Abovyan underground gas storage.
