EU Optimistic on Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The EU activates European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). Bulgaria and Romania will become EU members in 2006, thus the Europe's border will lie through the Black Sea, stated chair of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) faction of the European Parliament, British representative Graham Watson. «Europe is interested in peace and accord in adjacent countries. Our main goal is stability, population security and integration, thus we are interested in peaceful settlement of conflicts in the region,» the British MP said. In his words, within the framework fo the renewed European Neighborhood Policy the financial allocations for EU cooperation with South Caucasus states may increase.



At the same time he emphasized that the EU is optimistic on Armenia. «You are an ancient country with high culture and traditions and you are fully in line with European values,» the ALDE chair said. Before their arrival to Armenia the European Parliament delegation visited Azerbaijan and Georgia, where it met with the authorities and opposition.
