Parliament approves new Electoral Code in third readingMay 25, 2016 - 14:19 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - With a vote of 102:17 and 3 abstentions, the National Assembly in the third reading on Wednesday, May 25 approved the new Electoral Code of Armenia. The Draft Electoral Code was adopted at a cabinet sitting on March 3. Minister-Chief of Armenian Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan presented the draft and announced that the final version of the document will be prepared following active political debates, to be conducted until June 1. An opposition MP, Levon Zurabyan said they seek to ensure a major consensus in the issue. Harutyunyan said, in turn, that if mutually acceptable mechanisms are developed after June 1, an extraordinary session will be convened to discuss proposals for Electoral Code amendments.
