Armenia's Sargsyan briefs Mogherini on Baku's destructive policy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday, February 28 briefed EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Azerbaijan's provocations in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) and the current situation along the contact line.

At the meeting, the president stated that the meeting with Mogherini is taking place at an important moment as a day before Sargsyan and European Council President Donald Tusk announced the conclusion of negotiations on a new framework agreement between Armenia and the EU.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues pertinent to the development and strengthening of Armenia-EU relations.

Also, the two discussed the reforms carried out in Armenia in different areas, large-scale work implemented after the constitutional changes aimed at the development and strengthening of democratic institutions in Armenia, as well as the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In response to Mogherini’s question, Sargsyan dwelled upon preparations ahead of the elections and expressed gratitude to the EU for the assistance.

Among other things, the sides discussed the Karabakh peace process, existing problems and concerns.

The Armenian president spoke in detail about the destructive position of Azerbaijan, about its constant provocations on the contact line with Artsakh and Armenia’s state border, as well as the Azeris' refusal to implement agreements reached in Vienna and Saint Petersburg. According to Sargsyan, Azerbaijan's policy challenges the years-long efforts of the international community aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict and the entire peace process.
