PanARMENIAN.Net - The third round of the FIDE Grand Prix in Berlin on Sunday, February 6 saw half the games ending decisively, with Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian becoming the first player to score two wins in the event, Chessbase reports.

Aronian is now the favorite to reach the semifinals in group C — the grandmaster who now represents the United States has a full point lead over second-placed Vidit Gujrathi.

Two wins in three rounds have gained Levon Aronian 7.2 rating points, which currently put him in fifth place in the live ratings list. After missing the previous edition of the Candidates, the grandmaster has begun his final attempt to qualify to this cycle’s marquee tournament in style.
