Turkish Foreign Minister salutes Armenian protestors with "grey wolf" sign

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was filmed saluting protestors marching for the Armenian Genocide anniversary in Uruguay with the "grey wolf" sign, journalist Ragip Soylu said on Twitter, posting a video.

Symbolizing the Turkish nationalism, the gesture is mainly used by the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

Çavuşoğlu's car was moving towards the Turkish embassy in Uruguay, which he was supposed to inaugurate on Saturday, April 23 – the eve of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide – possibly as a provocation.

The Grey Wolves are closely linked to the Nationalist Movement Party, which has a political alliance with Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP). The Grey Wolves are regarded as the militant wing of the MHP and are known for causing havoc throughout the world.

On April 24, 1915, a large group of Armenian intellectuals was rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. On April 24, 2022, Armenians worldwide are commemorating the 107th anniversary of the Genocide which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide. Turkey denies to this day.
