Karabakh marks Independence day

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenians worldwide are marking the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic on September 2.

On September 2, 1991, a joint session of the provincial and Shahumyan Regional Council of Deputies was held in Stepanakert, where the Declaration of Independence was adopted. On December 10 of the same year a referendum was held to confirm the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. On that day, 99% of the population voted for independence.

President of the Karabakh parliament Davit Ishkhanyan issued a statement on September 2, saying that the decision to proclaim the NKR was one of the main stages in the formation of the statehood of Artsakh.

“Our country, proclaimed the Republic of Artsakh 32 years ago, established itself as an Armenian state, “respecting and observing the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the International Covenant on Civil, Political and Cultural Rights and counting on the understanding and support international community", Ishkhanyan said.

“For 32 years, Artsakh survived two large-scale wars, we experienced the joy of victory, state institutions were established, the country developed and prospered, but the enemy set himself the task of completely destroying the Republic of Artsakh in the war unleashed in 2020.

“At this stage of the struggle for the statehood of Artsakh, the battlefield has stretched from our compatriot overcoming everyday difficulties to soldiers on combat duty at the frontline. We do not give up, because it is our common duty not to allow the blood and sweat of our fathers, sisters, brothers and children to be shed in vain.”
