No one can enter or leave Armenia without registration, Yerevan tells Baku

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has responded to Baku’s expectations for Azerbaijani citizens to pass through the territory of Armenia, bypassing border procedures and customs control.

Mirzoyan said in an interview with the TRT World TV channel that Infrastructure that has been blockaded for decades must be unblocked under the sovereignty of the countries through which they pass. According to him, they must operate under the national jurisdiction of the parties, as well as on the principles of equality and reciprocity.

“These principles are quite natural, everyone in the world will agree with this, and we hear from Azerbaijan that they respect these principles, they have no intention of violating the sovereignty of Armenia, but at the same time they propose that the forces of a third country be deployed, for example, along the railway that will pass through Armenia,” Mirzoyan said.

“They also expect that Azerbaijani citizens will pass through the territory of Armenia, bypassing border procedures and customs control. We are confident that Armenia can ensure the safety of passengers passing through its territory, we can facilitate procedures, modern, innovative technologies can be useful in this matter, but no one can enter or leave our country without proper registration.”

Azerbaijan and Turkey have on multiple occasions raised the question about the Zangezur "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region.
