FFA President elected to UEFA executive committee

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Football Federation President Armen Melikbekyan has been elected to the UEFA Executive Committee for a four-year term, reports Armenpress.

Melikbekyan was among 11 candidates vying for seven vacant seats on UEFA’s executive board. Following a vote, he secured enough support to join the governing body of European football.

Born on May 10, 1980, Melikbekyan previously served on UEFA’s Youth, Amateur, and Media Committees from 2006 to 2015. He joined the Armenian Football Federation’s Executive Committee in September 2018 and was named acting secretary general. He became the Federation’s full secretary general in June 2019 and was elected president in December that year. He was re-elected on December 23, 2023.

In response to a Facebook post by “Armenian First Front” initiative leader Sergey Janjoyan, Melikbekyan stated that his nomination was not self-serving and condemned attempts to undermine his candidacy as disgraceful.

Former Armenian national team player Aras Özbiliz publicly criticized Melikbekyan, claiming he should resign if he truly cares about Armenian football.
