Artur Aleksanyan takes break from wrestling

PanARMENIAN.Net - Olympic champion, multiple medalist and decorated Armenian wrestler Artur Aleksanyan is temporarily suspending his appearances, armsport.am reports.

The Armenian athlete, who competes in the 97 kg weight class, will not take part in upcoming tournaments, including the approaching European Championships. Armenia’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team head coach Armen Babalaryan announced this on the air of First Channel.

According to the coach, Aleksanyan is currently undergoing treatment, and world under-23 champion Hayk Khloyan will represent Armenia in the 97 kg division in his place.

The wrestling federation, for its part, said that for now Aleksanyan will miss only the European Championships.

“We officially announce that, for now, Artur Aleksanyan will miss only the European Championships, as he is recovering from an injury. Artur has not yet said his final word on the mat,” the statement said.
