
Armenia’s national weightlifting team has won its first medal at the 2026 European Championships held in Batumi, Georgia.
Garnik Cholakyan became European vice-champion with a total of 274 kg in the combined event.
In the men’s 60 kg category, Cholakyan successfully lifted 120 kg and 124 kg in the snatch, earning a silver medal in that discipline, Armenpress reports.
In the clean and jerk, he lifted 145 kg and 150 kg, securing a bronze medal.
In the same weight category, Angel Rusev of Bulgaria won gold with a total of 275 kg.
