Armenian chess players qualify for World Cup

PanARMENIAN.Net - At the conclusion of the European Individual Chess Championship in Katowice, Poland, grandmasters Robert Hovhannisyan and Haik Martirosyan qualified for the 2027 Chess World Cup.

They each scored 8 points and shared positions 5–23, ranking 9th and 13th respectively based on tie-breaks, Radar Armenia reports.

Among the Armenian participants, international master Arsen Davtyan also finished among the prize winners with 8 points, placing 23rd. During the tournament, he achieved his first grandmaster norm, while Tigran Hambardzumyan completed his second international master norm.

The European Championship was won by Ukrainian international master Roman Dekhtyarov, who scored 9 out of 11 points.

The results of Armenian participants are as follows: Haik Martirosyan — 8 points, Robert Hovhannisyan — 8 points, Arsen Davtyan — 8 points, Emin Ohanyan — 7.5 points, Shant Sargsyan — 7.5 points, Gabriel Sargsyan — 7.5 points, Artur Davtyan — 7.5 points, Manuel Petrosyan — 7 points, Vahe Soghomonyan — 6.5 points, Mamikon Gharibyan — 6.5 points, Tigran Hambardzumyan — 6.5 points, Robert Piliposyan — 6.5 points, Mariam Mkrtchyan — 6.5 points, Raffi Ghazaryan — 4.5 points.
