Armenia must conduct active explanatory work on NKR conflict

PanARMENIAN.Net - At today's news conference, Heritage Parliamentary Faction Secretary Larisa Alaverdyan spoke of serious gaps in informational opposition between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the necessity of constant explanatory work at all international levels.

As a negative example, she cited the incident with maps published in Armenia, which contained no indication of NKR and liberated territories. If before 2000 European mappers refrained from publication of South Caucasus maps, currently they publish maps of Soviet-time Azerbaijan, without indication of NKR. "But then, what's to be expected from them, if we're afraid of publishing "correct" maps in Armenia," Larisa Alaverdyan stressed.

Larisa Alaverdyan gave a critical assessment to one of information work principles, declared by Jirayr Liparityan, ex-Counselor of first RA President for External Affairs in 1990. According to the principle, Armenia had to refrain from replying to Azerbaijan's attacks, explaining, "our cause is the right one - so we need no protection".

"This defeatist approach will doom us to be at the tail end of all events.

This approach came as a result of absence of unified state program for NKR conflict settlement," she noted.

A new generation of international diplomats, unaware of the essence and background of Karabakh conflict came to RA political scene. The absence of unified program creates an informational gap, actively filled in by Azeri propaganda.

"We won't be able to protect NKR interests unless we work out unified criteria and approaches," Larisa Alaverdyan emphasized.
