Russia to allocate $8mln for implementation of Sustainable School Feeding program in ArmeniaJuly 9, 2010 - 20:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan received UN World Food Program Representative in Armenia Melanie Mason to discuss details of Sustainable School Feeding program implemented by the UN WFP. The Minister congratulated Melanie Mason on her appointment, expressing hope for fruitful cooperation to achieve the goals set by the UN. Referring to details of Sustainable School Feeding program, Mr. Ashotyan noted that it is necessary to develop an action plan, involve representatives of the Ministry in a working group and agree on joint adoption of decisions by the UN WFP and Ministry. Besides, the Minister referred to import of foodstuffs and their inspection on site, as well as other provisions of the program, attaching importance to usage of foodstuffs of Armenian producers during the program's implementation. For her part, Melanie Mason noted that the Russian government is the donor of Sustainable School Feeding program, saying that a relevant trilateral agreement will be signed soon among Russia, Armenia and UN WFP. Russia will allocate $8mln for the program implementation within three years. School feeding will be provided to 5,000 school students of 700 schools in six regions of Armenia.
