Armenia’s four women weightlifters qualified for Olympic Games

PanARMENIAN.Net - On September 26, the World Weightlifting Championships finished in Antalya, where sportsmen could qualify for the Olympic Games in London. The Armenian team was represented by four women and six men weightlifters.

2010 European champion Gevorg Poghosyan (weight class 94kg) and Arthur Babayan (weight class 105kg) were the last to enter the competition.

Poghosyan was the 11th, lifting 380kg in snatch and clean & jerk combination and gaining 15 points for the Armenian team. Russia’s Alexander Ivanov won the champion’s tile, lifting 403kg.

Arthur Babayan was the seventh, lifting 394kg in snatch and clean & jerk combination, gaining 19 points. Poland’s Marcin Dolega won gold medal, lifting 415kg.

Earlier, Armenia’s Tigran Martirosyan won the champion’s title (weight class 77kg), bringing 28 points. As a whole, the Armenian men team was the 18th with 62 points.

Meanwhile, the Armenian women team was the ninth with 80 points. Meline Daluzyan won bronze medal (weight class 69kg). Thus, Armenia’s four women weightlifters have qualified for the Olympic Games in London.
