About 2800 drug addicts undergoing treatment in Armenian drug abuse clinicMarch 23, 2011 - 13:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - About 2800 drug addicts are presently undergoing treatment in Armenian drug abuse clinic. “1472 of the patients are Yerevan residents, 37 of them are women. There are around 30 thousand drug addicts in Armenia, 5-7 thousand of them are intravenous drug abusers,” clinic director Petros Semerjyan told a news conference on March 23. The number of drug addicts has increased by 30% in 2011 compared to 2010. “The reason behind the increase is that drug abusers are not prosecuted but sent directly to the drug abuse clinic,” Semerjyan said. The age of patients varies from 20 to 30. The treatment period lasts some 15-25 days. “We are using modern methodology to completely cure the patients,” Semerjyan said.
