Egemen Bagis: EU will ask Turkey to join

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for European Union talks Egemen Bagis said on Saturday, May 7, that the Union would perceive Turkey's potential eventually.

“They will chase after Turkey and try to persuade us to join. Therefore, we should never feel pessimistic in our EU process which constitutes the most important part of our own civilization journey and democratization process,” he said.

Bagis said EU reforms contributed to Turkey's remarkable progress in fields such as education, transportation, justice and security recently.

"Therefore, we will not stop, we will proceed on our way," he said. "We are implementing EU reforms not for the union, but to raise the living standards of our citizens."

Commenting on the upcoming general elections, Bagis said Turkey will “prepare a new constitution that would be embraced by all segments of the society after the elections, and by this way, the obstacles on Turkey's EU path would be eliminated,” the Anatolian Agency reported.
