Iranian MFA: Bushehr nuke plant launch not related to nuclear program

PanARMENIAN.Net - The launch of Bushehr nuclear power plant does not mean that Iran must halt its nuclear program, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

"Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities will not be suspended. Those who insist on it, thus display their ignorance on nuclear issues. Iran must provide for own needs for fuel for nuclear power plants and therefore will continue uranium enrichment works," Ramin Mehmanparast told a briefing in Tehran, ITAR-TASS reports.

September 12 saw the official launch of Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran. Fuel for Bushehr was delivered to Iran by Russia. However, as recalled yesterday at a news conference in Bushehr, by the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Fereydoon Abbasi Davani, according to a long-term development program of the national atomic power, IRI authorities plan to build other units with total capacity of 20 thousand MW. Design capacity of Bushehr plant is 1 thousand MW.
