Eduard Sharmazanov: Obama used diplomatic wording to accuse Azerbaijan of making bellicose statements

PanARMENIAN.Net - Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia parliamentary group Eduard Sharmazanov said that the U.S. President’s letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev contains clear messages that Baku should refrain from making bellicose statements with respect to the Karabakh conflict resolution.

“In other words, U.S. President Barack Obama used diplomatic wording to accuse Azerbaijan of making warlike statements,” Sharmazanov told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

According to Sharmazanov, in his letter the U.S. President attached importance to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, what complies with Armenia’s stance.

“Meanwhile, recently Azerbaijan was giving “theatrical performances” full of warlike statements, instead of taking certain steps for the conflict resolution,” said Sharmazanov.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates handed President Barack Obama’s letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Azerbaijan. The letter also reads that a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is essential for the long-term stability of the South Caucasus region, and support for this outcome will remain a priority for the United States.
