Larisa Alaverdyan: Madrid Principles beneficial for major actors

PanARMENIAN.Net - Larisa Alaverdyan, Heritage parliamentary group secretary doesn’t see any changes in the positions of OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair countries on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Meanwhile she hailed the reaction that followed the recent statement by the Presidents of Russia, United States and France.

“Such reaction shows that the issue becomes more comprehensible for the population,” she told journalists on July 2.

At that she noted that Armenia’s policy of retreat hampers the Armenian society and the international community in understanding the goals of the Armenian side.

“Madrid Principles are neither pro-Armenian nor pro-Azerbaijani. They meet the interests of the major actors,” Alaverdyan said.

As to the possibility of deployment of peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone, she said: “History shows that stationing of peacekeepers leads to bloodshed in most cases.”

And added: “The defense army of NKR has been maintaining the ceasefire during 16 years without any assistance.”
