Politician: Robert Kocharian’s specter is haunting Heritage

PanARMENIAN.Net - Leader of Democratic Fatherland party, which makes a part of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), Petros Makeyan labeled the statement of head made by Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan with respect to the ANC leader as a lie.

He tied this statement, as well as recent actions of Heritage party to Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharian. “Kocharian’s specter is haunting Heritage,” Makeyan told a press conference.

“Safaryan’s statement after termination of Raffi Hovannisian’s hunger strike indicates that he carries out somebody’s order,” he said.

He did not exclude the possibility of Robert Kocharian’s union with Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun.

Armenian National Congress (ANC) leader, the fist Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrossian must be held politically responsible for the death of 10 people in tragic events of March 1, 2008, the leader of Heritage opposition party’s parliamentary group stated on his Facebook page.

As Stepan Safaryan stressed in his post, Ter-Petrossian should have foreseen the development of the events at Myasnikyan Square, by either being present in person or dismissing the rally to prevent the tragedy. According to Safaryan, in the morning of March 1, 2008 he informed Ter-Petrossian about the gathering of people at Myasnikyan Square, to which the ex-president replied, “it’s not my people.”

Safaryan said he realizes the extent of a stir to be raised by his post, yet is ready to resist it.

During the extraordinary congress of Heritage on March 15, Raffi Hovannisian urged Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to resign and thus to ensure fair and independent elections in the country. He also announced the start of “Hungry for Change: Freedom and Justice in Armenia” hunger strike and promised to coordinate his future steps with the party members. On March 30, Hovannisian terminated his hunger strike for the sake of citizens who’ve been supporting him and his daughter Shushi who became 18 on March 31.
