Agbeko withdraws from Showtime main event due to injury

PanARMENIAN.Net - IBF bantamweight champ Joseph Agbeko was scratched because of injury from the Showtime mini-tournament main event, but the April 23 at the Nokia Theatre in LA will go on, in modified form.

Foe Abner Mares (21-0) still wants to fight, and matchmakers are scouring the land for a replacement for the 31-year-old Ghanian. The fighter contracted a pinch nerve in his back earlier this week. Scuttlebutt is that he was having trouble making weight, and had been doing excess cardio to get to the desired weight. Tomoki Kameda, a 19-year-old Japanese fighter with an 18-0 mark, is said to be a possibility to meet Mares.

The Vic Darchinyan-Yonnhy Perez semifinal is still a go, according to thesweetscience.com.
