ARMENIAN PREMIER MET WITH IRANIAN PRESIDENT

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian met with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who is on a 2-day official visit in Yerevan at present. As reported by RA government press service, during the conversation A. Margarian noted that the multilateral cooperation between Armenia and Iran is not only based upon the interests of both countries but is favorable for the whole region as well. The Premier highly appreciated the balanced and constructive policy pursued by the neighbor state on the issue of settling regional conflicts. At the same time A. Margarian pointed out to the necessity of stimulating the economic cooperation between the two countries. During the conversation the parties with satisfaction noted the fact of signing the agreement on the building of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline in May 2004, discussed the joint construction of a hydroelectric power plant at Araks River, a number of other programs to be carried out in various areas as well as prospects of interaction. Iranian President and RA Premier also touched upon the situation in the region and presented the approaches of the two countries, which, in their words, are very close. "By joint efforts our states can pave the way to the North thus activating bilateral economic cooperation", President Khatami noted.
