  EU calls to stop violence in South OssetiaAugust 8, 2008 - 15:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - NATO, the European Union and the United States called for an immediate end to fighting in Georgia's South Ossetia region and urged direct talks between the sides.EU foreign policy Chief Javier Solana said the EU is very concerned by how the situation was evolving. "We repeat our message to all parties to immediately stop the violence," he said. On the night of August 8, Georgia troops attacked Tskhinvali, seizing several districts of the South Ossetian capital and then 11 surrounding villages. Commander of combined peacekeeping forces, major general Marat Kulakhmetov said that South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali, is mostly destroyed.
