Ankara "advises" Obama to refrain from Armenian Genocide recognition

PanARMENIAN.Net - A delegation from the Turkish Foreign Ministry paid a visit to Washington to hold a series of talks with the team of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Hurriyet daily reports.

The Turkish delegation got the impression that the administration will advise Obama to refrain from using the term Genocide in his annual April 24 commemoration statement.

They also delivered a message saying, in part, that "bringing the Armenian claims to Congress will damage not only Turkish-American relations but also the new period of dialogue between Yerevan and Ankara."

During his election campaign, Barack Obama pledged to recognize the Armenian Genocide if elected President.
