99% vote in favor of South Sudan secessionJanuary 20, 2011 - 16:17 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The results of South Sudan’s referendum on independence, showed an overwhelming vote for in favor of secession. A document signed by Michael Mabor Makuei the chairman of Lakes state High Referendum Committee, indicated that 99.924 percent have voted in favor of secession, while only 0.076 percent voted for the unity of Sudan. The document said that of the 300,444 people registered in Lakes state 299,041 voted, meaning that the state had a turnout of 99.53 percent. There were 450 invalid ballots, Sudan Tribune reported. Southern officials claimed that people who had voted for unity must have been from remote areas which were not reached by the southern government’s outreach committee. The secession of the South from northern Sudan, will give birth to Africa's 54th state, with 80% of petroleum resources located in it.
