Armenia to cooperate with World ORT in innovative education field

ArmenTel CJSC signed a contract with TeliaSonera telecommunications provider.

Armenian Ministry of Education and Science signed a memorandum of understanding with Word ORT non-governmental education and training organization. The memorandum stipulates for cooperation in implementation of high technologies into education sector, development of information technologies, use of Interned in education process, creation of programs promoting development of hi-tech centers in Armenian universities.

Orange Armenia has announced an Orange innovation contest for the students of Yerevan State University and State Engineering University of Armenia. Bruno Duthoit, Orange Armenia CEO, and Yves Tyrode, France Telecom Executive Vice President in charge of the Technocentre, stated that the Orange innovation prize will enable the winner to take a maximum of 6 months remunerated internship in Orange Labs. The prize will be granted on the basis of a competition of innovative ideas and projects in telecommunication field submitted to Orange Armenia.

Orange Expo 3-day exhibition of innovative products and services opened in Yerevan in the special exhibition hall, located on the basement floor of Orange Flagship store.

Armenification of smartphones will be one of the requirements for Orange Armenia-imported models, according to Orange Armenia CEO Bruno Duthoit. “However, it will be impossible to apply the rule to all smartphones imported, in view of the difficulty of Armenian letters’ recognition in all models,” he said.

The Armenian government has approved the concept on rehabilitation of Gyumri industrial park. With respect to it, the Economic Development Fund of Gyumri announced a competition for business ideas in engineering and information technologies. The ideas should be implemented in Gyumri and aimed at its economic development. Applications are accepted by the Ministry until November 12, while the competition results will be known on November 25. Based on the selection results, the Economic Development Fund of Gyumri will establish a new enterprise with the competition winner, while the funds invested for participation in the authorized capital will be used to finance top priority events. The program on state assistance to Gyumri industrial park’s activity was approved by the government on April 2009. The state allocated AMD 200mln in 2010 for Gyumri industrial park’s establishment.

Armenotype.com website, a new home of Armenian typeface design and typography was launched. The website project was initiated by Hrant Papazian, U.S. type designer and Nina Stossinger, independent Swiss designer. Website launch was timed to the International Translation Day in Armenia. Armenian types, designed by well known British designer Carolyn Puzzovio, as well as her article on the history and culture of Armenian types is already posted on the website.

U!Com made AMD1.92 billion worth investments out of AMD 3.9 billion envisaged in the framework of 3-year investment program. 2700 connections instead of 700 planned have been registered since 2009.

ArmenTel CJSC signed a contract with TeliaSonera telecommunications provider. The agreement will provide ArmenTel with its 5th independent internet backbone access. The bankbone reaches Eastern Europe through the territory of Georgia.

The company also sealed a deal with Ericsson, a provider of telecommunication and data communication systems, and related services, covering a range of technologies, including especially mobile networks. As result of network infrastructure expansion, data loading speed can reach 20-30Mbit/sec.

HD voice wideband technology to provide a deeper clarity and better audio experience in voice telephony communications, caught the interest of 2 Armenian radio companies, Orange Armenia spokesperson Lilit Martirosyan stated. “HD voice service has been available in Armenia since June 2010. Before Armenia, HD voice technology has already been presented in Moldova and then, after Armenia - in the UK,” she said.
