Gas supply to Armenia halted over landslide in Georgia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Georgian Gas Transportation Company informed Gazprom Armenia CJSC about temporarily halting gas supply to Armenia over an accident on Georgian gas main.

Gazprom Armenia reported the news, pledging uninterrupted gas supply to Armenian consumers.

As RIA Novosti reported citing Georgian government, the North-South Gas Pipeline, which transports Russian gas to Armenia through Georgia, has been damaged following a rockslide in Dariali Gorge.

The rocks blocked the Terek River, causing waterline to rise several dozen meters; state of emergency was announced in Vladikavkaz, with residents of nearby settlements evacuated.

According to Georgian media, workers involved in hydropower plant construction were caught in the landslide, with no report on casualties available yet.
