Armenia confirms Azerbaijanis blocking interstate road

PanARMENIAN.Net - The National Security Service of Armenia is working to restore traffic on an interstate road blocked by the Azerbaijani side since Wednesday, August 25 evening, the NSS said on Thursday.

Though the Karmrakar-Shurnukh section of the Kapan-Goris highway in the southern province of Syunik has been closed down since about 23:00 on August 25, the vehicles have been evacuated, the NSS reported.

Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan said earlier that the Azerbaijani military kept the Goris-Kapan road blocked, and that civilian vehicles could not move. Thanks to negotiations with the participation of Russian and Armenian border guards, however, civilian cars were allowed through, but the road is still blocked.

Negotiations have been going on since the morning.
