Azerbaijan blocks a second section of Armenia interstate road

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Azerbaijani military has blocked another section of an interstate road in Armenia's Syunik province, Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan said on Thursday, August 26.

The National Security Service confirmed earlier that the Armenian side is working to restore traffic on Karmrakar-Shurnukh section of the Kapan-Goris highway blocked by the Azerbaijani side since Wednesday evening.

Tatoyan now says that another section of the same road – the one connecting the town of Goris to the village of Vorotan – has been blocked too.

"This is an interstate road that ensures the normal movement of the civilian population of the Republic of Armenia and is directly connected with the normal life of the people," Tatoyan said in a statement.

"These criminal acts of the Azerbaijani armed forces violate the right of people to free movement and completely disrupt the normal life. Their very presence on these roads is a violation of the right to life and other internationally guaranteed vital rights."

Civilian vehicles were initially trapped on the road but were evacuated thanks to negotiations with the participation of Russian and Armenian border guards.
