ANOC official criticizes Weightlifting Federation’s actions

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hrachya Rostomyan, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia (ANOC), stated that among all members, only one — the head of the Weightlifting Federation — has “decided to obstruct the normal functioning of the committee,” commenting on the federation’s lawsuit, according to Aravot.

He emphasized that the issue will be resolved within the legal framework and through appropriate legal mechanisms.

“The National Olympic Committee of Armenia and its leadership carry out their duties in accordance with the ANOC charter and the Olympic Charter of the International Olympic Committee. Elected officials continue to perform their functions until the first special session of the ANOC General Assembly is held. Until that session takes place, their mandates remain in force.

The special session of the General Assembly was scheduled for April 11, 2026, at 15:00. However, among numerous ANOC members, only one — the president of the Weightlifting Federation — after receiving the agenda, chose not to submit any proposals regarding agenda items, including candidacies, and instead decided to obstruct the committee’s normal operations.

In the current situation, I consider it important to emphasize that we see the solution to this issue in the legal domain and will proceed through legal mechanisms. Our legal team is working on this, and the resolution of the matter will be in favor of us and our sporting community.

As for the reaction within the sports community, I believe representatives of the sector should approach this situation with Olympic calm and composure. We have always been united in all circumstances, and I am confident we will overcome this unpleasant phase with the same unity,” he said.

Rostomyan added that nothing can undermine the unity of Armenia’s sporting community.
