3 Armenian chess players to participate in chess tournament under-20August 2, 2011 - 11:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian World Team Chess Champion GM Robert Hovhannisyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan and Maria Gevorgyan will participate on Aug. 2-15 World Junior U20 Championship 2011 in Chennai, India. Among juniors 125 chess players are supposed to participate in the Championship, while among girls 69. They will compete on Aug. 2-7, Aug. 9-15. The idea of the World Junior Chess Championship under-20 was the brainchild of William Ritson-Morry who organized inaugural event to take place in Birmingham, England in 1951. Subsequently, it was held every two years until 1973, when an annual schedule was adopted. In 1983, a separate tournament for girls was established.
