Organ and Tissue Registry to be established in ArmeniaApril 20, 2009 - 22:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Organ and Tissue Registry will soon be established in Armenia, Ara Babloyan, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee for Health Issues said. According to Ara Babloyan, activities towards establishing the bank will start after the adoption of law on "Transplantation of Organs and Tissues". Organ and Tissue Bank will act as an independent structure, after receiving status approval from the authorized agency (RA Ministry of Health). "The bank might promote Armenia's joining such international structures as Eurotransplant, an international foundation, involving Germany, Holland, Austria, Belgium, Luxemburg and Slovenia. In transplantation surgery, Eurotransplant gives priority to its affiliated countries," Parliamentary Committee Cahirman said. Ara Babloyan did not preclude future possibilities of Armenia's cooperation with its neighbors, "It is, for the time being, impossible to start the process of international donor exchange in Armenia. To do that, we are required to establish donor bank and create organs' maintenance and transplantation mechanisms." Ara Babloyan also noted that marrow donors register is now acting in Armenia, with structure's services to be used in case of necessity.
