PanARMENIAN.Net - Head of the Department for Struggle against Trafficking and Illegal Drug Trafficking at the RA Police Nazaret Mnatsakanyan and Head of the Drug Abuse Center at the RA Ministry of Healthcare Petros Semerjyan met with journalists.

According to Mnatsakanyan, Armenia’s Police revealed 1152 crimes related to illegal drug trafficking in nine months of 2010.

“Criminal proceedings were instituted against 605 people, including 2 juveniles, 12 women and 49 foreigners (45 citizens of Iran). I would like to note that we revealed 826 cases in 2009, while the growth in revealed cases proves the efficiency of our activity,” said Mnatsakanyan.

According to him, the Police revealed 598 crimes under Article 266 of the RA Criminal Code (illegal preparation, processing, purchase, storage, transportation and shipping for the purpose of sale or illegal sale of narcotics and psychotropic substances), as well as 549 crimes under Article 268 of the RA Criminal Code (illegal preparation, processing, purchase, storage, transportation or shipping of narcotics and psychotropic substances not for the purpose of sale).

“In 2009 Armenia’s President decided to create a National Program, which was approved in July 2010 by the RA government. The Program is aimed at decreasing the number of drug-addicts in our country, as well as revelation of crimes related to illegal drug trafficking. The Program should be implemented by 14 institutions,” said Mnatsakanyan.
