Armenian chess players defeated their Azeri rivals

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the 8th round of World Junior Chess Championship held in Akhisar, Turkey from September 24 till October 3, Armenian national chess team (below age 16) beat their Azeri rivals 1.5:2.5.



Armenian team's winner was Hayk Vardanyan who gained the upper hand over Zaur Mamedov. All other games ended in draw.



This is Armenian team's 5th victory, with 3 being consecutive. In the 6th round, Armenian players beat England's team 3:1, and in the 7th round they beat Georgians 3.5:0.5.



Let's note that Armenian sportsmen played the first 3 rounds against Turkish players, holding victory in the first two games, and making draw in the last match. In the 4th and 5th rounds, they fell behind Russian and Hungarian teams with minimal scores.



There are 22 teams participating in championship, with 6 representing Turkey.



In the 9th round, Armenian sportsmen will compete against Indian team, one of tournament leaders.
