Armenian losing to Russians in 8th round of European Team Chess Championship

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Chess Team in the 8th round of the European Team Championship, taking place in the Serbian town of Novi Sad, suffered its second defeat, yielding to top-favorite of the tournament, the team of Russia with a score 1,5:2,5.



The only defeat of the Armenian team was of Vladimir Akopian, who lost with Black to Alexander Morozevich. The other three parties ended in a draw.



The Armenian national team almost lost the opportunity to win the tournament, since the Russia's national team and the team of Azerbaijan scored 13 points each and are 2 points ahead of the Armenian squad.



In the 9th and final round the Armenian chess players will compete with the national team of Switzerland, the Russians will play with the Spaniards, and the Azerbaijani team will compete with the Dutch forces.
