VivaCell-MTS revamps housing conditions in border villages

PanARMENIAN.Net - VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian and Fuller Center for Housing Armenia President Ashot Yeghiazaryan visited the village of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur near the state border in Armenia's Tavush province.

In the framework of a Vivacell-MTS project, the housing problem of many families has been solved here, with renovation works and construction of 7 half-built houses completed in 2015.

Years ago, the Avagyans’ house was partially destroyed from a mine explosion. Launched several months ago, construction has been completed despite the danger of border fires. The heads of the organizations, who have participated in the construction works, visited the village to share the happiness of the family.

“On behalf of fellow villagers and myself, I can say this project was a salvation for us. For people living in a border community under the constant danger of rival attacks, basic housing conditions become that much more appreciated,” said Babken, the head of the family.

“For a long time, the walls of this home have borne traces of the war,” Yirikian said. “Ousting Armenians from their lands is still on the rival’s agenda, but those plans will never be fulfilled as long as people living on this land stand firmly on it. The Avagyans’ courage deserves our respect.”

“Families living in border villages need to feel support in dealing with their problems. Since 2014, the housing problem of 27 families has been solved in four villages of Tavush province,” said Yeghiazaryan.

Since 2007, VivaCell-MTS has contributed AMD 228.3 million for the basic reconstruction or renovation of houses thus improving the life quality of 480 people with social needs in 31 villages of 10 Armenian provinces.
