PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani military units are currently 4.5 km away from the gates of the Armenian resort town of Jermuk in Vayots Dzor province, the Chief of General Staff of the Armenian army Edvard Asryan told foreign diplomats on Friday, September 16.

Before Azerbaijan launched its large-scale aggression, the Azerbaijanis were 11-12 km away.

Asryan said the town came under fire when tourists and local civilians were in it. According to him, the ropeway, which is situated to playgrounds and other civilian facilities, was struck too.

He added that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan perpetrated crimes every step of the way and said that civil infrastructure was targeted deliberately.

He reminded that Jermuk is a spa town and maintained that Azerbaijan sought to damage Armenia’s economy by targeting the resort.

Asryan also revealed that the Azerbaijanis have managed to advance near the villages of Nerkin Hand and Shorzha (1.5 km) and Ishkhanasar (0.5 km).

The Armenian Defense Ministry said on Friday morning that no significant incidents were registered overnight. 135 Armenians have been confirmed dead so far.
