Azeri lifters won’t participate in European Championship in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani athletes won’t participate in the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, according to a statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the National Olympic Committee.

A delegation from Azerbaijan arrived in Armenia on Thursday, April 13 and participated in the opening ceremony on Friday.

During the opening ceremony, stylist Aram Nikolyan went on stage, burned the flag of Azerbaijan and removed it from the area. Nikolyan was detained by the police but released later. He has not been charged due to lack of criminal record.
