Weightlifting: Armenia’s Araik Mirzoyan won the U23 Weightlifting Championships in 77kg weight category, lifting 155 in the snatch and 186 in the clean & jerk (totaling 341kg). Aghasi Aghasyan won silver, lifting 336kg in the snatch and clean & jerk.

Chess: Armenia's Levon Aronian who has recently climbed to No. 3 in the world won the World Blitz Championship in Moscow on November 18. The Armenian grandmaster scored 24.5 points, passing 0.5 point ahead of Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan. Magnus Carlsen of Norway was another half point back in third. Slovakia's Sergei Movsisian finished 15th with 17.5 points.

Women's World Chess Championship 2010 will be held from 2nd to 25th December in Hatay, Turkey. 64 players qualified for the knockout matches which will produce a World Champion after six rounds of play. FIDE has published the list of 64 players to compete in Women's World Chess Championship 2010 from December 2 to 25 in Hatay, Turkey. In the first round, Armenia’s Lilit Mkrtchyan and Elina Danielyan will rival China’s Xiaowen Zhang and Russia’s Tatiana Shadrina respectively.

Chess: Armenia’s Samvel Ter-Sahakyan won silver at the World Youth Chess Championship in Porto Karras, Greece. Samvel Ter-Sahakyan was leading the U18 category until the last round, where he suffered a defeat by Russia’s Alexander Shimanov.

Mika women’s club wins bronze medals at European Chess Club Cup, Levon Aronian climbs second in world rankings

Chess: Armenian Mika women’s club gained 18 points, finishing 3rd at the European Chess Club Cup in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Armenian club won 4, tied 1 and lost 2 out of 7 rounds. Men’s club showed the same result, finishing 11th with 28,5 points. Monaco’s Cercle d'Echecs de Monte Carlo women’s and Russia’s Economist- SGSEU-1 men’s clubs won the tournament.

Weightlifting: Armenia’s Tigran G. Martirosyan claimed double gold in both clean and jerk and total in men's 77kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Antalya, Turkey. Martirosyan combined 173kg in the snatch and 200kg in the clean and jerk to win gold with a total weight of 373kg.

Weightlifting: Armenia’s Elen Grigoryan (53kg) finshed 12th at the World Weightlifting Championships, lifting 186kg in snatch, clean & jerk. China’s Chen Xiaoting won the division, lifting 222kg. Meline Daluzyan (69kg) won bronze. She lifted 251 kg in snatch, clean & jerk, gaining points for London 2012 Olympic Games. Russia’s Svetlana Shimkova won the 69kg division, lifting 256 kg.
