Hranush Hakobyan: we would like to make chess in Diaspora as popular as in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the framework of One Nation. One Culture festival, the first ever All-Armenian Chess Olympiad will be held in Yerevan from August 15 to 23, bringing together 12 teams from 10 countries.

On August 12, Armenian Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan, Vice President of RA Chess Federation and Director of the Chess Academy of Armenia Smbat Lputyan met with journalists to expand on the forthcoming event.

“We would like to make chess in Diaspora as popular as in Armenia,” Minister Hakobyan said.

“The teams include 11 grandmasters, 10 international masters and 7 FIDE masters. The youngest participant Samvel Sevyan is 10 years old. He is from San Francisco,” Lputyan added.

The budget of All-Armenian Chess Olympiad is $21700.
