Armenian Goalball Championship to launch November 1October 30, 2010 - 16:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On November 1, Yerevan will host the second Armenian Goalball Championship within the framework of To Society through Sport program. 4 teams from Yerevan, Abovyan, Etchmiadzin and Gyumri will be participating, with winners to be awarded medals of the Armenian Federation of Disability Sports. Goalball is a team sport designed for blind athletes. Participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. They must use the sound of the bell to judge the position and movement of the ball. Games consist of two 10 minute halves. Blindfolds allow partially sighted players to compete on an equal footing with blind players. The rules require the field of play to be 18m long by 9m wide.
