Argentina leads 2-0 over Romania at Davis Cup

PanARMENIAN.Net - Juan Mónaco defeated Victor Hanescu in four sets and achieved the second point of Argentina against Romania during the first groups round of the Davis Cup.

The Argentine won 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-1 and 6-1 in two hours and 50 minutes at the Mary Terán de Weiss stadium in Parque Roca. Earlier, David Nalbandian had a tough time finishing off the match. The Argentine player defeated Romanian Adrián Ungur by 6-3, 6-2, 5-7 and 6-4.

Both he and Adrián Ungur kept it close until the former was able to break his opponent’s stance and advance 5-3. Afterwards, Nalbandian was able to keep up his game and win the first set after 55 minutes.

However, there were some rough moments during the fifth and seventh game when he had to work with the unfavorable 15-40 result.

The official ceremony presented each team and both countries’ anthems were heard before Nalbandian started off the match against Ungur.

Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank will play against Hanescu and Horia Tecau in doubles. Nalbandian and Hanescu will face off, followed by Mónaco and Ungur, although the results of the matches prior to this date are key in determining who the protagonists will be, Buenos Aires Herald reports.
