HSBC Bank Armenia joins Earth Hour 2012 global campaign

PanARMENIAN.Net - HSBC Bank Armenia cjsc and its 400 employees joined WWF’s Earth Hour 2012 by switching off the lights for one hour, the bank’s press service reported.

HSBC offices in 58 countries are lending support to Earth Hour 2012 by proactively and continually promoting climate change ideas among colleagues and partners. This includes HSBC Bank Armenia’s awareness raising and call to action events, involving and engaging bank employees: no car day -walking to the work place or using a public transport and no printing day - reduction of daily average printing quantities, as a result of controlling printing.

“Being a socially responsible organization HSBC is demonstrating its commitment to Earth Hour 2012 not only by switching off lights in buildings but also by committing to reduce energy consumption aiming to reduce its annual employee carbon emissions by one tonne, from 3.5 in 2012 to 2.5 by 2020. We are confident that raising the peoples' awareness of potential effects of climate change is a priority in the 21-st century. This problem is acute world wide, and Armenia, cannot stay aside,” HSBC Bank Armenia Deputy Chief Executive Officer Irina Seylanyan said.

Earth Hour is a global initiative in partnership with WWF. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities were invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8:30 PM to show their support for environmentally sustainable action. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when 2 million people switched off their lights. By 2011, Earth Hour was being reported as ‘the World’s largest campaign for the planet’ with participation in 135 countries and territories across every continent, including the world’s most recognized man-made marvels and natural wonders in a landmark display of environmental action.
