Armenia: Opposition activist transferred to Investigative Committee

PanARMENIAN.Net - Activist Samvel Vardanyan, detained under the article “hooliganism” and accused of insulting the lawmaker Hakob Aslanyan from the ruling Civil Contract party, has been taken to the Investigative Committee directly from the detention center.

His lawyer Ruben Melikyan explained to journalists that in order to ensure the safety of his transportation, a group of opposition figures, including some deputies and members of the City Council, came to the pre-trial detention center in the morning.

The decision to transfer Vardanyan to the Investigative Committee was made after he was beaten on April 15 on the way to the pre-trial detention center.

According to Melikyan, the Investigative Committee should have initiated a criminal case based on media publications that Vardanyan has been “tortured”, but that did not happen.

Melikyan noted that the case was fabricated.
