New fixed-line telephony operators’ entry to Armenian market won’t result in lower tariffs

The entry of new fixed-line telephony operators to the Armenian market won’t result in reduction of ArmenTel’s tariffs. “The fixed-line telephony tariffs are determined by the Public Services Regulatory Commission. I see no connection between entry of a new operator and lowering of tariffs,” said Igor Klimko, Armentel CEO.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Meanwhile, U!Com company plans to start providing fixed-line telephony services from the end of this summer.

In the beginning of April 2010, U!Com obtained its code (6045) and the possibility to have 10,000 numbers in this number capacity for providing fixed-line telephony services. The company also announced that a new digital phone appeared in the Armenian market, it includes such functions, as video call, SMS services, etc. U!Com company, which was established in 2007, provides three types of telecommunication services: Internet communication, IP-television and telephone digital communication of new generation.

Armenian cellular operator VivaCell-MTS has joined the Armenian Fund for Internet Traffic Exchange ( ARMIX), following Orange Armenia, ADC, Ucom, iCon, Web, Apaga Technologies, GNC Alfa and Shirak Technologies.

Armenian Fund of Traffic Exchange (ARMIX) aims to improve the security and quality of telecommunications services through provision of public interconnection between telecommunication networks of Armenia, as well as reduction of prices for these services. The Fund also plans to establish Internet Exchange Center what will allow to save up to 20-30% of international Internet traffic in Armenia.

The Armenian government approved the project on establishment of CANDLE international center based on synchrotron light emission facility. Given the importance of this project for the applied sciences and technologies development, the state will participate in this scientific project, covering 25% of expenses.

The RA Ministry of Education and Science will be responsible for the project's implementation. According to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the establishment of CANDLE international center is a good example of state's and private sector's support to initiatives of Armenian scientists.

The complex will offer an opportunity to have over 40 modern testing laboratories, Director of CANDLE scientific and research institute, PhD in Physics and Mathematics Vasily Tsakanov told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. "The project implementation will allow conducting world-class fundamental and applied researches in physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, ecology, microelectronics, pharmacology and material science in Armenia, as well as will serve as a driving force for the development of high technologies in the country," he said.

CANDLE is a project of 3 gigaelectronvolt energy, third generation synchrotron light source. It was designed by Armenian scientists and was highly estimated by an international expert commission, as a world-class project and brilliant initiative for the development of science and technology in Armenia. CANDLE is ranked among the following projects on light emission source: SPEAR3 (USA), CLS (Canada), SOLEIL (France) and Diamond (England.) The demand for such sources is from 3-10 times higher than the available possibilities in the world.
